Why we need the Bible in these times

Science has become a religion. In fact, it is the main religion the world recognizes. In 1987, U.S. courts ruled that teaching creationism in public schools violates the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, which prohibits the advancement of religion in public education. It is important to know the Bible so we are not swayed by man’s religion.

We believe the Bible is infallible and does not change. It is culture that changes, and tries to alter biblical truths to match. There are two main theories of the origin of life: creation and evolution.

What the schools taught many of us

  • The world took millions and billions of years to arrive where we are today — the only way to support evolution.
  • Bible history is a series of Bible stories, meaning myths.
  • The Bible can’t be trusted: different translations, contradictions, and so on.

Age of the earth

Often taught

Encyclopedia Britannica states that the earth is close to 4.6 billion years old. Their source: theories developed over centuries.

What we believe

It is about 6,000 years old. Our source is the Bible. Gen 1:1 John 1:1–3. The fossil record and the rock layers prove what we believe. The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens — a single catastrophic event — produced the same kind of rock layers and fossils. In the flood, countless volcanoes and earthquakes occurred. Gen 7:11–24

Age of man

Often taught

The Natural History Museum states that genetic evidence shows the last common ancestor of all humans and modern chimpanzees is thought to have lived between six million and nine million years ago in Africa. A lack of fossil evidence means very little is known about what this ancestor looked like.

What we believe

Man was created as an adult by God, in His likeness. Gen 1:26–27 Gen 5:1 Isa 45:12. The fossil evidence actually proves the Bible. There are no fossil remains that changed kind. There are many fossils that prove a rapid catastrophic event, the Flood: one fish swallowing another, animals giving birth, and so on.

The origin of man

Often taught

Wikipedia and the Smithsonian state that the origin of modern humans, Homo sapiens, is a complex topic of evolutionary biology and anthropology. Humans are believed to have evolved from apelike ancestors over approximately six million years.

What we believe

He was created on the sixth day of creation. Gen 1:26–31

Not all Americans agree. According to a Gallup poll Vince cites:

  • Though diminished from the early 2000s, the largest segment of Americans, 37%, are creationist purists, saying God created humans in their present form within the past 10,000 years.
  • Twenty-four percent of U.S. adults accept the scientific theory of evolution, that humans evolved from less advanced forms of life over millions of years without God’s involvement.
  • One in three, 34%, straddle both theories, saying humans evolved, but with God’s guidance. Pluralities of Catholics and college graduates believe in evolution over millions of years that was guided by God.

Dinosaurs

Often taught

The Natural History Museum states they first appeared approximately 230 million years ago and went extinct around 66 million years ago.

What we believe

They were created on the sixth day of creation. Gen 1:24–25. They probably lived until the Great Flood, when most were killed. Before the fall of man, dinosaurs were vegetarians and nothing died. Gen 1:31

How Christianity differs

  • Christianity differs from other religions primarily in its belief that salvation is a gift from God through faith in Jesus Christ. Rom 3:23 Rom 6:23
  • God (Jesus) chooses us. We do not choose Him. Eph 2:8–9
  • All other religions must try to earn salvation through good deeds or adherence to rules. Gal 2:16 Titus 3:5

The foundation

A sturdy house must have a strong foundation to stand firm. Our faith also requires a strong foundation. The Bible book of Genesis is our foundation. If we can’t trust the foundation, the building — our faith — crumbles.
